FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the size limit of your frames?
The size limits will depend on the type of frame. We generally don’t go smaller than 150mm per side and don’t go larger than 850mm per side including the frame so that the frames can fit inside our 1000mm x 1000mm shipping cartons and be within our courier limits.Â
We have set a lower upper limit on some thinner frames so that the structural integrity is maintained. If a frame is too thin it may not have the mechanical strength to sustain a large piece of artwork without causing the frame to sag or warp in the long term.Â
How long will my order take?
We’ll complete your frame within 5-10 working days from the time we receive your order. We’ll then send your order via courier. You will receive a notification from us once your frame has been built and we’ll send you another notification when your order has shipped.Â
Are your frames archival?
Our standard frames are not archival. We utilise 100% acid-free materials and our hinging techniques are archival and 100% reversible. However, there are three aspects which don’t make our frames archival:
1. Our acrylics are 60% UV resistant. For glazing to be archival/museum/conservation standard, it needs to be 99% UV resistant.Â
2. We don’t bind our frames with sealing tape with a foil layer to prevent outgassing from the timber frames
3. We use flexipoint nails designed for flexibility. They are made of soft metal so they can be bent back. They can degrade over time and are not considered archival.Â
Do you offer Archival framing?
We don’t offer archival framing. We recommend those looking for archival/museum/conservation standard framing to seek the professional services of custom framers who have strong body of work doing archival framing. If you have a piece which is of high value, irreplaceable, historical, delicate or sentimental, it would be worthwhile spending the additional costs to have it professionally framed.Â
What are the standard materials that you use ?
Our frames are made of solid timber mouldings that are raw, stained, painted, lacquered, or have gesso finishing.Â
We use 2mm Genesis brand Ultimate Clear Acrylic cast sheets, made using 100% virgin Mitsubishi material to ensure the highest quality. It offers a 93% light transmission which is higher than float glass and offers 60% UV protection and less than 7% reflection. It is around half the weight of glass and offers 16 times the impact resistance of glass. It is weather resistant and non yellowing.
We use 4-ply archival quality matboards that are 100% acid-free. This prevents acid burn and browning/yellowing of your artwork. The matboards windows are bevelled and cut at an angle revealing a white core centre.Â
We use 3-5mm foamboard as backing.  It is lightweight and moisture resistant and won’t stain or yellow your artwork. Unlike MDF backing boards, foamboard is acid free and pH neutral, is less likely to swell, warp and deteriorate.
